The NH State House: A Legislative Experience

This small-group event is designed for members of the public who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of how the legislative sausage gets made in the Granite State.

What to Expect

We’ll begin the morning at 9:00a with a brief orientation in the Conference Room at the Clean Energy NH office, 125 North State Street, before heading to the State House. During this 30-minute introductory session, participants will receive an overview of the day, a simple guide to legislative rules and procedure, and a preview of what you’ll see during the House or Senate session.

From there, we’ll walk together to the Representatives Hall (second floor of the State House) to observe live proceedings starting around 10:00am. Participants will have the opportunity to listen in as legislators debate and vote on bills, offering a firsthand look at democracy in action. We’ll plan to observe for approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, and will provide live commentary regarding what we’re observing via a private WhatsApp group.

After the session, we’ll regroup and walk or drive back to our office for lunch. During this time, Clean Energy NH staff will lead a casual debrief discussion to reflect on what we observed, answer questions, and connect the experience back to current clean energy issues.

No prior knowledge of the legislative process is required, this experience is designed to be accessible and engaging for all.
