The Nest is BIRD’s annual 7-day residency where four emerging artists come together to create new music and an original live show through collaboration, experimentation, and creative exchange.
For The Nest Vol. 5, the artists are:
Lezaam Beets – trombone, voice
Dane Paris – drums, percussion
Jaydian Daniel – keys
Eñaut – electric bass
The residency takes place at Muziekwerf Rotterdam under the mentorship of Nduduzo Makhathini—the internationally acclaimed South African pianist, scholar, improviser, and Blue Note recording artist.
On 01 July, audiences get a first look at the new work created during the residency in a special try-out performance. Joining the group are Diana Dzhabbar (saxophone, flute) and Julia Zahra (vocals). The evening concludes with an open jam session.
The Nest is about process, encounter and the magic of the unknown. This is your chance to experience the project before its official premiere at North Sea Jazz.
The Try-out is made possible with the support of North Sea Round Town, the fringe festival of NN North Sea Jazz Festival, bringing jazz, soul, funk, hip hop and more to audiences across Rotterdam.
