Some of Canada’s best jazz musicians come from the Kootenay’s. The Nelson Jazz Collective, led by bassist Rob Fahie, includes pianist David Restivo and guitarist Mike Rud. They collaborate to perform original compositions and arrangements at the highest level.
They also provide a base for guest performers such as New-York-City-based trombonist Mike Fahie. As well as releasing three albums under his own name, Mike is the lead trombonist of several jazz ensembles in New York, including the four-time Grammy-nominated Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society. Mike has many albums, Broadway, and movie soundtrack credits to his name, and is principal trombonist of the Grammercy Brass Orchestra of New York. Also a finalist for the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Trombone Competition, Mike was the first ever Canadian Fulbright Scholar in Jazz.
Audiences can expect inspired performances on a cross-section of music incorporating classical, modern and free. Enjoy a New York City jazz club experience, without leaving the beautiful BC Interior!
