The Music of John Dowland

This concert brings Nêhiyaw-Michif/Cree-Métis baritone Jonathon Adams to K'jipuktuk/Halifax for an evening of Renaissance music with lutenist Lucas Harris of the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. The program centers on the enchanting music of John Dowland. Born in England in 1562, Dowland was a composer, virtuoso lutenist, and skilled singer – in fact, he was one of the most famous musicians of his time, performing for European Kings and Queens and colonial decision-makers alike. Dowland worked during a time of musical transition and absorbed many of the new ideas he had encountered on the Continent. The concert centres on Dowland's works for lute and baritone, providing beautiful echoes of the music played and sung in royal courts, chambers, and music halls four centuries ago.
