The City of Morgantown will host a community cleanup event, The Mountaineer Mission: Clean & Gold, on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the day after the WVU vs. Pitt football game.Volunteer Information
Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. at Courthouse Square (243 High St.). Volunteers must complete waiver forms and select their cleanup zone.
Safety briefing at 10:45 a.m. led by the City of Morgantown’s Community Development Services Director, Caitlyn Lewis.
Volunteers should wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes. Sandals and flip-flops are discouraged.
Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Tools for the cleanup will be provided by the City of Morgantown.
Volunteers will be provided with water and light snacks during check-in.
In case of severe weather, the event will be canceled. Otherwise, it will proceed with rain or shine.
Cleanup Zones
Downtown (North)
Streets: Price St., Prospect St., North Spruce St. (from North High St. to Prospect), Forest St., Baird St., Dallas St.
Tasks: Litter and W**d removal, including embankments, overgrown grass, and heavy weeds in flower beds.
Downtown (Core)
Streets: Spruce St., High St., Chestnut St. to Walnut, Fayette St.
Tasks: Litter pickup and W**d removal.
Downtown (South)
Streets: Kirk St. to High St., Lower Chestnut, Moreland, University, and Foundry St.
Tasks: General cleanup and weeding.
Deckers Creek (Brush Clearing)
Tasks: Brush clearing along the trail on the north side of Deckers Creek, below the South High St. Bridge.
Sunnyside (Secondary Group)
Tasks: Heavy focus on trash cleanup.
Additionally, the city has invited WVU student organizations and other community groups, including past members of the Morgantown Citizens Academy, to participate, with the goal of uniting university and city residents in a shared mission of civic pride. The Interfraternity Council also plans to participate, further strengthening the connection between campus and community.
Volunteers are invited to wear blue and gold to show their spirit and support. WVU students looking to earn community service hours can find event opportunities on iServe, the university’s main platform for connecting campus life with local volunteer opportunities.
