Join us for the first event of JAWS Fest 2024, a concert at the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center with Mohummed-Rafee Shakir! Mohammed-Rafee Shakir is an Alto Saxophonist, Flutist, and West African Drummer originally from Los Angeles California, raised in the Las Vegas Valley and has recently moved to Mobile, Alabama. He is an alumnus of the Las Vegas Academy School of Performing Arts and International Studies and studied Jazz music at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. His original performing experience and instruction began at 10 years of age at the West Las Vegas Arts Center’s Performing and Visual Arts Program of which he has been a director and teacher of music in their children’s Summer workshops for the past 11 years. He is a professional musician having performed in various venues across the country in Los Angeles, Seattle, Las Vegas, New York City, Birmingham Alabama and internationally in Costa Rica and Mexico. He is a community advocate and has been a host of community events that aim towards greater inclusivity in the musical community and has a passion for youth education that provides children with the necessary tools to be successful in their creative endeavors.
