Join us at one of The Missing Trillions events organized for the 2024 London Climate Action Week, for a structured exploration of systemic risks and opportunities in climate finance.

This event is hosted by Metabolic and Systemic Climate Action Collaborative members, including IIED, Reos Partners, Climate-KIC, Dark Matter Labs with support from Atölye and UN High-Level Climate Champions.
We share the process of identifying opportunities and translating them into a prospectus format to help mobilize capital. We share this process and three example outputs around the topics of Capital Formation, Project Pipeline, and Transition Governance.

Join us as we share a process to identify high-leverage investments at the intersection of systems thinking and transition finance. Our methodology uses systems thinking to develop actionable strategies that resonate with a broad spectrum of capital: public, private, and philanthropic.

This event is an open call to gather collective insights to refine our approach of opportunity identification for mobilizing capital to close the finance gap of the Missing Trillions. `These prospectuses, creation methodology, and intervention library will be opened to the public for critical feedback, partnership development, and implementation pathways.

Motivation

A decarbonized global economy requires a sustainable pace of unprecedented investment. Financial institutions are committing capital to financing sustainability by 2030: Goldman $750B, Citigroup $1T, and Barclay’s $1T. And this is just investment banks. Private equity, insurance, venture, philanthropy, and the public sector are forging ahead, investing $1.8T in 2023. Although there’s been rapid growth, we are still far short of $4.5T per year needed to stay within a 1.5°C pathway consistent with the Paris Agreement (IEA 2023).

About The Missing Trillions Initiative

The Missing Trillions is an initiative aimed at driving systemic risks and opportunities in climate finance. The key moments, punctuated by working groups, lays the groundwork for action through a series of engagement events, community development, content development, and intervention delivery. Through a series of events at NY Climate Week, COP29 in Dubai, and WEF at Davos, and aligned with the efforts of UN High-Level Climate Champions and the Climate Change Capital Mobilization Accelerator, The Missing Trillions is designed as a laboratory to discover and prioritize systemic intervention that unlock enabling conditions for systemic change.

As we progress through the year, each event is designed as a milestone to share findings and build, creating a continuum of accountability and action.

  • The Missing Trillions: Viability Assessment (Sep 2023). At NYC Climate Week, we convened experts in project development, structured finance, and nonprofits to refine Metabolic’s systemic approach.
  • The Missing Trillions: Obstacles and Opportunities (Dec 2023). At COP28 in Dubai, we facilitated a panel on the obstacles and opportunities in scaling regenerative agriculture as a case theme.
  • The Missing Trillions: Root Causes (Jan 2024). At WEF in Davos, we laid the groundwork by identifying systemic barriers in collaboration with finance experts, implementers, and enablers.
  • THIS EVENT - The Missing Trillions: Breaking Down Barriers (June 2024). At London Climate Week, we share interventions for barriers, inviting an open call for collective wisdom that refines our approach.
  • The Missing Trillions: Taking Action (Sep 2024). At Climate Week NYC ‘24, we will present the outcomes of our collaborative efforts, mobilizing investment coalitions around mutually-developed interventions.
