About this Event
The Miners Strike at 40 - The Battle Goes On
The impact of the Miner's Strike is felt to this very day. The strike was a deliberate and calculated brutal assault by the Government on the National Union of Mineworkers and their members. The miners were subject to cruel and violent attacks on their lives and on them personally. The Government's actions had a devasating affect, closing pits, creating mass unemployment, destroying communities and wrecking livelihoods. The shock waves shook the whole trade union movement and undermined the aspirations of working people for a generation. This meeting will be a chance to reflect on the striker's experience and learn some of its lessons.
Speakers are John Dunn from Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign; Rose Hunter from North Staffordshire Miners' Wives and Jane Nellist from Coventry Trade Union Council
