Howdy folks, its time to kick things off for another year of The Milwaukee Synth Meet!-------------------------------------------
Join us Sunday, February 22nd
Noon - 6ish
@ Golfshoe Music
635 E. Wright St. - Riverwest
Bring a synth, bring a friend, BYOB.
*Demonstrations start around 3pm*
--------------------------------------------
Join us in welcoming our first guest for the year, Michael A Firman! We were all blown away by his performance at Knobcon last year so we knew we had to get him out for the synth meet!
A short bio from the man himself...
“While my academic background is far a field from anything musical I’ve always been involved with music in one way or another. I’ve played keyboards (piano and organ),
saxophone, clarinet, electronic instruments (since the early 1980s), and shakuhachi (since the early 1990s). For the last 30 years or so, I’ve kept my shakuhachi playing and my electronic music well separated. Currently I’ve begun to fuse the two interests. I
hold a teaching certificate (Shihan) in the shakuhachi and teach out of my studio in Naperville Illinois. The studio is also my extensive electronic music laboratory where I compose pieces of electronic music that often incorporate some form of randomness or other processes that are only marginally under my control (biological signals derived from plants and humans). Recently I’ve incorporated shakuhachi, voice, and percussion (particularly gongs of various types) into my compositions. All of my compositions are for real time performance (i.e. they do not constitute Tape Music or use multitrack
techniques)."
Michael will be doing a short performance and a quick breakdown of his musical process...
“I intend to perform a piece written for Buchla Thunder and Yamaha TX802 digital synthesizer titled Thunder Piece #2 (Spin Vector In Cold Isolation) and a traditional piece for shakuhachi from the Buddhist tradition accompanied by my own brainwaves
controlling electronics”
------------------------------------------------------
As usual we always want to hear from you fine folks. Bring your projects to show off, tell us about shows your playing, built a new synth or module? We wanna see it!
------------------------------------------------------
Table space may become limited.
If you have a large setup to accommodate give us a heads up in advance, otherwise first come first serve.
Please bring your own headphones to demo synths with as opposed to monitors, We'll have a PA/Mixer setup if anyone wants to demonstrate anything to the whole group.
We'll also have a projector/hdmi mixer running if anyone has visual equipment to demo.
-----------------------------------------
This is a free ALL AGES event but a 10$ suggested donation to the studio goes a long way towards keeping these running into the future, we truly appreciate all the support we can get folks, cheers!
