About this session:
Effective mentoring relationships can accelerate career growth, streamline decision-making, and more-- helping both mentees and mentors thrive. While vital for career advancement, structured mentorship is rarely a given in construction firms or other industries. For women and allies alike, navigating this landscape requires proactive strategies to break down industry barriers and build strong professional networks. By leveraging a structured playbook filled with proven resources and techniques, participants can shape mentorship alliances targeted to their unique goals.
During this training, we will:
- Identify the 6 anchors for building a successful mentoring alliance
- Understand mentee and mentor myths and mistakes
- Generate the right ask for the right mentor
- Review creative mentoring options
About our facilitator:
Kathy de Jong is the owner of Per4mance Management, a leadership development consulting firm and the co-founder of BAS Women in Construction. She has a proven track record of results with Fortune 500 firms, universities, and non-profits coupled with a history of successful partnerships in the construction industry including Webcor Builders, SMACNA National, EUCA and others. Previously she served as the Director of Labor Relations for Bay Area Chapter of Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (BAS) where WIC launched with 33 members and has grown to 600+ members today. Prior to joining BAS, she championed and piloted “Leading Forward,” an enterprise-wide onboarding program for all professional employees at Pacific Gas and Electric.
Kathy earned her MA in Organizational Management and Development from Fielding Graduate University and a BA in Public Policy from Cal State University, Sacramento. She’s brought her leadership and insight to several boards, including the Association for Talent Development and the Rising Sun Center for Opportunity where she has shared her passion and expertise helping individuals to effectively pursue career goals. In her spare time, you will find her hiking a new trail, looking forward to ski season, and still attempting to become a better cook.
