The Masterclass Series (1) Artist: Becky Namgauds
Rebecca (Becky) Namgauds is a choreographer, movement director, performer and multidisciplinary artist whose work is defined by a strikingly physical and emotionally charged approach to performance. Based in London, and originally from the North of England, she has spent more than 15 years creating her own independent works and developing a movement language that is unmistakably her own: raw, instinctive and visceral. Her work for stage and screen has been described as “extraordinary, haunting and arrestingly physical” (Theatre Audience Podcast) and recognised by The Guardian as an unapologetic exploration of female instinct - identifying her as “one to watch.” Her choreographic work took off with a commission from Hofesh Shechter Company and East London Dance for LIFT, followed by the national and international touring Rodadoras, supported by Arts Council England. She has presented works at Dance Umbrella, British Council Edinburgh Showcase, the V&A, Greenwich & Docklands International Festival and Walsall Art Gallery and created works for EMERGENCE Graduate Company, Scarabeus Aerial Theatre, Arbonauts, LCDS (The Place), Thames College and Roma City Ballet Company. As a performer, Namgauds has worked extensively with leading directors and artists including Marianne Elliott (National Theatre), Eddie Peake (Barbican) and Holly Blakey, across stage, film, music and commercial contexts. Her most recent work THE HEAT which premiered and sold out at Sadlers Wells in 2025 with performances at Tye Lowry and South East Dance will be touring in late 2026/27. For 2026 Becky is part of TalentLAB with Theatre de La Ville in Luxembourg and is simultaneously creating a work for the overs 60s performance group at The Place and movement directing a new opera with the BBC singers.
