The Mark Kaplan Quartet plays Best Video Film & Cultural Center on Fri., Jan. 27. The show starts at 7 PM and the cover is $10.The Mark Kaplan Quartet is comprised of veteran jazz luminaries dedicated to the tradition and preservation of the music known as “bebop.” Aside from leading several of their own jazz ensembles, their lengthy resumes include playing with such stars as Billy Mitchell, Charlie Byrd, Junior Mance, and Harold Mabern. Their All Star rhythm section includes: Martin Carter, piano; Esdras Lubin, bass; and John Rispoli, drums. Collectively, they achieve the classic “straight ahead” quartet sound in the spirit of Charlie Parker and the Masters who followed him.
