The Marietta Earthworks: New Information and Insights.
The Marietta Earthwork site is southeast Ohio's only geometric Hopewell Culture earthwork complex, and presents several unusual features when compared to other earthworks in Ohio. It was one of the first archaeological resources to be mapped and discussed in America, and in recent years new information has been developed about the site and the local people who built and used it. Clarke will present an overview of the site and new sources of information about its cultural content and contexts.
Bio: Wesley Clarke is a Registered Professional Archaeologist with over fifty years experience in the American Midwest and Southeast Asia. He is currently on staff at The Castle Museum in Marietta, Ohio, where he is excavating an early nineteenth century historic pottery production site.
