About this Event
The Madrid Review LIVE: Booksellers of Madrid!
What goes on behind the neatly categorised shelves of a bookshop? Why are independent bookshops so important to the publishing industry and for promoting diverse literary voices? How do books get on shelves? And, how can you get yours on there?!
We are so excited to welcome, not one but three guests to the stage for the next edition of The Madrid Review LIVE! David Price of The Secret Kingdoms, Terry Craven of Desperate Literature and Eitan Felner of Parent(h)esis will take part in a roundtable discussion about all things books and bookselling.
In an industry increasingly dominated by big names, big business and the big 5, independent booksellers are an essential part of a writer's journey, especially for those who aren't represented by a literary agency. And, on the other side of the page, bookshops have long been meeting places for bookworms, often - as with all three bookshops represented in this event - providing a place to hold discussions and foster a sense of community.
Come along to find out more about the magical (and complicated) world of bookselling and have your questions at the ready!
This event is organised by Jayne Marshall and James Hartley.
Jayne Marshall is a writer and editor. Her first book was recently published by Modern Odyssey Books. She is also Associate Editor of The Madrid Review
James Hartley is the founder and editor of a bilingual literary magazine based in Madrid and showcasing emerging and established writers worldwide. In recent issues, the magazine has had the pleasure of interviewing the likes of Salman Rushdie, Colm Tóibín, Simon Armitage, Margaret Jull Costa, Rosa Montero and Javier Sierra.
We look forward to seeing you on the 25th February!
