The Luxurious Faux Furs are an enigmatic rock n roll trio based in New Orleans, Louisiana. They are beloved, mistrusted, idolized, ignored, puzzled over, and derided for their conceptual marriage of quasi-European glamour and droning, swampy rock n roll. The band [Jessica-Melain (drums), Lefty Parker (bass), and Josh Lee Hooker (guitar)] approaches their music with the howling, elemental minimalism of the Gories and Mississippi Fred McDowell. Yet they also embody the opulent absurdism of 70’s glam rock (a la T. Rex and Cockney Rebel), with stretched out songs, copious “ooh ooh” backup singing, and expressionistic vocals. The Luxurious Faux Furs are defiantly un-modern and anti-traditional; they’re neither urban nor rural; they have no interest in “what’s going on” and they certainly don’t care what people say about them.
