Tenor Michael Petruccelli and pianist Andrea Katz explore the many sides of love through poetry and songs that shaped the musical landscape of two centuries. To mark the 50th anniversary of Benjamin Britten’s death, the duo pairs his expressive 20th-century works with the timeless lyricism of Franz Schubert, one of Britten’s favourite composers. The first half follows Britten from the high energy of On This Island to the quiet, sacred reflection of Canticle I, including the bright piano solo Sailing.
The second half turns to Schubert, moving through the peace of Du bist die Ruh and the tenderness of the famous Ständchen, before closing with the poignant Abschied von der Erde. Together, these pieces offer a thoughtful look at devotion and the human heart.
