NOTES:
The National Famine Way Walk is a 165km walking and cycling trail that commemorates the heart-breaking walk of forced emigration which took place in 1847 at the height of the famine. You can set your own pace as you follow in the footsteps of the 1,490 tenants who were forced to emigrate from Strokestown to Canada in 1847. The trail is way marked with over 30 pairs of 19th Century bronze shoe sculptures.
The FREE National Famine Way App is available to download on Android and Apple devices. Search your App store for the ‘Famine Way App’
The trail is accessible for families, casual walkers and cyclists.
We encourage you to visit both Strokestown Park, The National Famine Museum, Co. Roscommon and EPIC Irish Emigration Museum in Dublin’s Docklands
