Schedule
Mon Apr 14 2025 at 07:30 pm to 10:00 pm
UTC+01:00Location
Ryans Bar Glasgow | Glasgow, SC
Audiences – it’s your job to sway the judges by making as much noise as possible for the poets you enjoy.
Tickets are £5 and can be bought in advance from the link above. (Performers do not need a ticket)
Poets – You will be competing in 3 x 3 minute rounds themed to find the most well-rounded poet.
Round 1: “Make us LAUGH” – this is the simplest and potentially the most challenging round – comedy ain’t easy
Round 2: “Make us THINK” – have you got something experimental to bring? Or have you got a point to make? Show us something that will run rings around our heads.
Round 3: “Make us FEEL” – Love, loss, lust. Elation, embarrassment, ecstasy. Bring out all the big emotions for the final round.
Judges will be scoring on your writing, your performance, and how effectively you fit the theme for the round.
The winner will take home £50 cash.
Sign-ups are open from now until Friday 21st March – sign-up by messaging Candlelight on Facebook or Instagram.
Hosted by Ross McFarlane, glaswegian poet, performer and theatremaker – writer of Life Goals of The Millennials or: The Commune Manifesto, Folxlore, and The 900 Club. Artistic Director of Spoken Word @ The PBH Free Fringe, multiple slam winner, host of many nights, and Glasgow’s best support act for poetry and music!

THE LOCK IN is a place where everyone is welcome – unless you choose to act like a dick or in a way that makes others unwelcome. In this case, you are not welcome. This means: no sexism, no racism, no transphobia, no homophobia, no ablism, and no classism will be tolerated. No punching down, in or out of poems.
