If you're interested in the local history of Torbay, join us for our monthly heritage talk at the Chelston Manor.This April, our guest speaker is Kev Johns — an enigmatic storyteller and specialist in the education of Kent's Cavern .
Kev will be telling us the tale of William Pengelly, the leading Victorian scientist, geologist and archaeologist who spent 15 years excavating the caves in Torquay.
Join us for an enlightening talk that will deepen your understanding and appreciation of the iconic tourist attraction.

The Chelston Heritage Project
Chelston has many interesting heritage sites that most of use Chelston residents go past each day without realising the stories that lie behind them. We decided to breathe more life into these tales and produced a Heritage Trail linking together these sites of interest. The result is an A3 size heritage map which gives you a route around Chelston and an insight into some of our favourite places.
Our talks at the Chelston Manor Pub are part of a series of community evenings where residents can come and share their stories, photos and memorabilia with us, or come along and listen to a talk. If you have an idea for a future talk, please do get in touch!
In February, we featured Jack Critchlow, who gave his talk 'An Old Chelston Family' to a room full of people; it was a brilliant talk and it was wonderful to see so many people there — we hope to showcase more speakers over the coming months.
Having recently completed the Chelston Heritage Map, our aim is to uncover and share even more stories about the local history of Chelston and add to an existing digital archive.
