Enjoy the artistic explorations of four contemporary printmakers using traditional techniques to capture the beauty and wonder of the natural world. Intricate botanical portraits by Latifat Apatira reveal the unique complexity of hand-inked plants foraged in California. Sara Woodburn’s bold and colorful woodblock prints bring Japanese mokuhanga techniques to landscapes of the Central Coast and American West. Dwight Hwang’s celebrated work captures fleeting moments of life using gyotaku, the Japanese art of fish printing. Mineo Yamamoto’s masterful print of a 17-foot-long squid presides majestically over all these varied and beautiful impressions of nature.Try botanical rubbing methods in the workshop at the center of the exhibit, and get a closer look at each method in process videos playing in the gallery. Watch our calendar sbnature.org/calendar for select opportunities to meet some of the artists.
Included with Museum admission, Members are always free. The Courtyard Gallery is ADA accessible. Plan your visit at sbnature.org
