It has become clear to me that the role of art in creating a space for us to *feel* is critical, and understanding that has given me a beautiful and driving sense of purpose as an artist.
Grief is an experience our culture doesn’t know what to do with.
But this challenging, beautiful, crushing, enlivening part of life, so often ignored, denied, and swept under the rug, has tasked me with creating a space for it to come into the light.
The Living Grief Project (working title) will be a touring, collaborative show, featuring myself as guide along with other musicians, poets, and storytellers; I hope it will tour widely and have many iterations over many years.
The show, when it eventually happens, will be a space for the community to come together and be with our grief; grief of all kinds. Given the space to breathe.
I am fortunate to have been granted two residencies to work on the development of this project; in July at Second Echo Ensemble, and coming up next week at Moonah Arts Centre.
At the end of next week, I’ll be holding an open artist talk, Q&A, and mini performance on Friday 26th, from 5:30 - 7pm.
At the event I’ll share about the project, what has transpired in the development residencies so far, some of my collaborating artists may be there too; we can discuss with the audience the theme, and I’ll play a couple of the songs that we’ve been working on. I have some very special artists working with me on making the space beautiful as we develop the piece.
