Public outdoor musical outing - Stanley Park summer theatre night.

Short summary
Some summer nights do not need to be optimized.
They need trees, music, a stage, a little nostalgia, and enough darkness for everyone to stop pretending they are too grown up for this.
We’re going to see Disney’s The Little Mermaid at Theatre Under the Stars in Stanley Park.
This is a public outdoor theatre outing, not a discussion-only event. We’ll meet before the show, find each other, get settled, and watch the musical together at Malkin Bowl.
Yes, it’s Disney.
Yes, there will probably be children nearby.
No, that does not mean adults are immune to songs about wanting another life.
A good musical is not “just light entertainment.” Sometimes it is longing with better lighting.
And honestly, a warm August night in Stanley Park with a live musical is a much better use of a Saturday than another indoor screen cave.

• “What changes when you watch a childhood story as an adult?”
• “Does nostalgia make this kind of show softer, or stranger?”
• “What does outdoor theatre add that a normal indoor show cannot?”
• “Is Ariel brave, reckless, trapped, curious, or all of those at once?”

How the evening will go
We’ll meet near Malkin Bowl at 7:15 PM, say hello, and get settled before the show.
The show starts at 8:00 PM.
Runtime is about 2 hours 30 minutes, including a 20-minute intermission, so expect the night to end around 10:30 PM.
Afterward, if people still have energy, we can do a quick group photo or a short wander out through the park together.

Practical notes
This is an outdoor show, so check the weather and bring layers.
Stanley Park can feel colder once the sun drops, because Vancouver loves humbling people who dressed for the afternoon.
TUTS notes the show includes a brief pyrotechnic effect.
Arrive on time so we can find each other before everyone disappears into the crowd.
