Join us for the keynote address of the Library’s Community Read, an evening of science, story, and connection inspired by "Lab Girl" and the NEA Big Read theme Our Nature. In The Life of a Plant Girl: Science and Storytelling from Both Sides of the Brain, botanist and writer Susan J. Tweit explores what storytelling has to teach science — and how science can deepen the stories we tell.Presented in partnership with the Casper College School of Science, this special event brings together community members, students, and nature enthusiasts to reflect on what it means to be human in relationship with the living world. Drawing from her life experience in “re-storying” nature, Tweit shares personal narrative and ecological insight, revealing how careful observation, curiosity, and imagination work together to help us understand both landscapes and ourselves.
Susan Tweit is a botanist, award-winning author, and self-described “plant nerd” with a passion for interpreting the language of wild places. She is the author of thirteen books spanning memoir, nature writing, and children’s literature. Her memoir "Bless the Birds: Living with Love in a Time of Dying" won the Sarton Award for memoir and was a finalist for the Colorado Book Awards. Her work bridges science and personal narrative, exploring the interwoven relationships between humans and the natural world.
This special keynote event will take place on Wednesday, April 22 at 6:00 PM in Durham Auditorium at Aley Hall on the Casper College campus. Call 577.7323 for more information.
