Discover Our Classes
“Our signature classes blend creative expression with meaningful self-discovery, creating an intimate, one-of-a-kind, and truly transformational experience.”
At The Halifax Expressive Arts Community, we believe art has the power to transform your life and community. But don’t take our word for it, let us show you instead. We invite you to join us on Tuesday, September 24th, and take the first steps on your journey of self-discovery as we introduce you to powerful creative activities that will unlock your potential and guide you in the direction of your most inspiring and rewarding life.
“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” – Pablo Picasso
Our intimate classes are comprised of two parts. In the first part, you'll explore the hidden dimensions of your personality through the practice of intuitive drawing. Each playful activity will show you how to reach beyond your limits by uncovering how your mind works, what your subconscious is secretly trying to tell you, and how to effortlessly tap into your brain’s dynamic problem-solving states. And best of all, you're going to do it with nothing more than a box of elementary school art supplies.
In the second part of this class, you’ll explore The Art of Happiness through creative activities that are guaranteed to spark joy and boost your brain’s feel-good chemicals. When you think about happiness, art may not be the first thing that comes to mind, however, the field of positive psychology has uncovered a strong link between creativity and feelings of joy. It turns out that engaging in specific types of creative self-expression contributes to an upward spiral of positive emotions and feelings of wellbeing.
“We’re on a mission to support emotional healing and personal growth through creative self-expression.”
The class will close with a brief discussion of the art-making process and our shared experiences. Classes are open to everyone regardless of your creative or artistic ability. No previous drawing or art-making experience is necessary to benefit from creative self-discovery. If you can draw a wavy line or a square, you can begin to connect with your innate wisdom and transform your life.

Frequently Asked Question
Where is the workshop being held and do I need to bring anything?
We’ll be gathering in the BMO Community Room on the 2nd floor of the Halifax Central Library. While we won’t be providing food or beverages, you’re welcome to bring your own drinks in spill-proof mugs. All supplies will be provided, but since art can get a bit messy, we suggest wearing something comfortable that you don't mind getting a little washable paint on. We’ll also take a short break midway through the class to recharge.
Do I need to be able to draw or paint to attend?
Art-making experience is not necessary to benefit from creative self-discovery. Whether you end the session with a detailed masterpiece or a blank sheet of paper, the value is still the same. Both communicate something about how we are feeling and can help us in our wellness journey.
Will the class help me improve my artistic skills?
These classes are designed with a different focus in mind. Rather than aiming to teach or refine artistic skills, they're centered around the profound journey of creative self-expression. Unlike traditional art classes, these sessions won't emphasize formal techniques. Instead, they provide a space for you to tap into your innate creativity and let your inner voice express itself through colours, patterns, and shapes.
What are the health benefits of art-making and creative self-expression?
Extensive scientific research has consistently highlighted the numerous benefits of engaging in art-making. Creative expression has been shown to calm the nervous system, reduce blood pressure, focus the mind, and stimulate the release of chemicals in the brain that decrease depression and anxiety, improving our outlook, mood, and ability to cope in times of difficulty.
“Art can permeate the very deepest part of us where no words exist.” Eileen Miller
