A research that highlights the barriers young Asian sexual violence survivors and their families face in accessing mental health support.
About this Event

Our ground-breaking research report, Asian Sexual Violence Survivors’ Experiences and Expectations of Support within Schools in Aotearoa New Zealand, funded by a Lottery Health Research Grant, highlights the barriers young Asian sexual violence survivors and their families face in accessing mental health support.

The launch will feature a panel of experts in sexual violence prevention and trauma-informed care, alongside young people with lived experience and Dr. Ying Wang, the study’s author. Chaired by Kelly Feng, CEO of Asian Family Services, the panel will address key research findings, including:

  • The impact of delayed interventions and long waiting times for survivors accessing services.
  • Significant negative experiences with support services reinforcing existing mistrust in the system, further discouraging survivors from seeking help.
  • The lack of training and resources to effectively address the complex needs of young Asian survivors.

This event is co-hosted by the Centre for Arts and Social Transformation (CAST) at the University of Auckland and Asian Family Services (AFS).

Location:

Lecture Theatre 201-440, Level 4, Building 201

10 Symonds Street, Auckland CBD.

Trigger Warning:
