Let's face it, Latino and Latina lawyers, whether emerging as leaders in law firms or as in-house counsel, lack access to essential leadership and managerial skills training that authentically speaks to their unique growth and developmental needs.
Leading law firms and corporate legal departments recognize the importance of developing all of their attorneys, particularly around supervisory, client, and business development skills. But these employers also lack access to specific solutions to address these needs in a culturally meaningful manner, especially for Latino and Latina Lawyers.

In September of 2023, after 30 years of attending organized bar association conferences, Angel Gomez heard a prominent researcher advocate for the creation of a leadership development program for associates at large law firms and associate counsel in legal departments.

Based on the statistics, she argued, the time had come to do something about the lack of Latino and Latina leadership representation in the legal profession.

It dawned on Angel that he had been hearing the same complaint for over 30 years.

From associates, partners, in-house counsel, bar association leaders, professional development specialists, heads of Human Resources, and Chief Diversity Officers, the message was all too familiar. The time is now!

And nothing happened.

In November of 2024, during his annual strategic planning retreat, a colleague turned to Angel and said, "It's time to stop complaining about this problem, and time for you to start to do something about it."

Over the next few days, others chimed in.

"You've been a partner at several large law firms."

"You were a Chief HR Officer for a $5B business."

"You know what it takes to advance in the profession."

"You're a Past President of the HNBA!"

"You already run the programming for the HNBA's PODER25 and Latina Executive Leadership Program."

After several long brainstorming sessions and scribbles on a bunch of wall charts, Angel had designed a learning experience combining research on Latino and Latina cultural norms and values and his 30+ years of experience on leadership success factors and competencies.

What he came up with was a rigorous and interactive, two-day, Latino-centric leadership development experience with follow-up leadership coaching focused on the application of practical skills and techniques that drive higher performance and advance the careers of Latinos and Latinas in law firms and corporate legal departments.
