The Late-Night Heavies are a good time party band rocking the catchiest hits from the 60’s right up to today, with an emphasis on 80’s tunes. Our live performances are energetic, fun, danceable, catchy, and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. The band is composed of 5 wicked musicians: Colin Oberst, John Tidswell, Jim Ward, Don Horak and Louise Dawson-Maclean. The group formed in ad hoc fashion in 2017 in Edmonton, Alberta to play as an opening act for a couple gigs for friends.
Colin Oberst (Lead Vocals/Keyboards/Guitar) is the composer of the Hockey Night in Canada Theme song for CBC and the theme for Rogers, working with producers Bob Rock and Lou Pomanti. He has been in bands such as The Surgents (Sonic Radio Band of the Month), Customade and State of Affairs (Power 92 Contest winner), has had videos on MuchMusic and is a music producer at Octavo Productions.
Louise Dawson-Maclean (Lead Vocals) is an accomplished and well-renowned singer in Edmonton with many years experience singing and performing solo and with a large variety of musical acts. Even though her vocal prowess can be most seen and listened to in the genres of jazz and funk, she is a formidable pop/rock singer with an electric and effervescent stage presence.
Jim Ward (Guitars/Vocals) is a Berklee Guitar graduate who has played in numerous bands including We Used to Be Friends, Puremud, and, Marketforces. He has shared the stage with Steven Page, performed with John Cameron Entertainment and worked with producer Jeff Dawson, Trevor Hurst, and other rock luminaries. In addition to years of live experience in venues from coffee shops to The Winspear, Jim has enjoyed success with his music being on the radio and has attained recording credits on many projects.
John Tidswell (Bass) is an Edmonton musician who had enjoyed much commercial success in the 80’s with local band, NeoA4. His music has been on the radio and has had videos on MuchMusic. John is a songwriter, guitarist and vocalist with local original band, MarketForces, and has played in many other bands including Café Gurus.
Don Horak (Drums) is a highly skilled drummer who has also accumulated many years of live band experience. His band, Zotoz, was a local live venue favourite in the 80’s. He more recently has been drumming for bands such as Puremud and MarketForces.
