“The Last Match: A Pro-Wrestling Rock Experience,” starring pro-wrestling legend Mickie James, is a groundbreaking fusion of wrestling, theatrical spectacle, and 1980s-inspired original rock music.Mickie James is a 24-time champion and recording artist who stars as “The Mother," a character with a show-stopping rock number.
"This event is something that has never been done before, transcending the boundaries of traditional entertainment,” said Jeremiah James, who conceived and co-wrote the story, and serves as director and lead producer.
"The Last Match" is a family-friendly pro-wrestling event that tells a story, emphasizing the ring as a place where legends are born and dreams are realized. Each live-event location along the tour will transform into a wrestling arena.
"The Last Match" is the story of hero Ben Vengeance, who is stepping into the ring for his final pay-per-view event, against the formidable and conniving Alexander Swagger for the BTD World Heavyweight Championship. With the fate of his legacy in the balance, Vengeance’s last match promises to be the send-off worthy of his storied career.
"The Last Match" launched its proof-of-concept in 2022 in Jersey City, N.J., to sold out crowds and earned 11 “Broadway World” awards.
“'The Last Match' is two hours of lightning-like energy and emotion that inspires the crowd to stand up and cheer for more,” said James, a Rochester area native who personally chose his hometown city as the world premiere location for "The Last Match." James returned to the region seven years ago, while remaining active in Broadway productions, the most recent of which was starring in the hit musical "Funny Girl."
"The Last Match" is a heartfelt homage to the art of professional wrestling, a testament to the dedication, passion, and sheer spectacle that defines the beloved sport. The creators of "The Last Match" are all devoted wrestling fans.
Writer and lyricist Jason Huza weaves tales of triumph and turmoil. New Jersey-based composers Sylvana Joyce and C. Robert Smith, who co-wrote the story and lyrics, capture the drama of pro-wrestling’s golden era in original rock songs. Music directors Joyce and Sujin Kim-Ramsey will travel with the live five-piece band. Music from "The Last Match" is streaming on Spotify and other platforms, featuring Tony-nominated Ramin Karimloo and pro-wrestling superstar Matt Cardona.
Serving as wrestling trainers for the 2024 premiere and tour are former WWE superstar Afa Anoa’i Jr. and former NXT superstar Bull James.
