Ghost Train: Destination The Unknown is returning for one final outing in 2024 - but don’t worry it’ll be back in 2025 plus we’re doing an event at The Station Inn this October but that’ll be our Halloween special. This will be your last chance to join us on the Ghost Train this year.

Date & Time:

6:15pm Monday 30th September

Tickets for the June event go on sale 12pm (lunchtime) on Friday 16th August

This time the ghost train will be a return trip from Sheffield to Silkstone Common, where there will be a few stories and then a chance for a drink at The Station Inn, hearing myths, legends, and ghost stories along the way.

The ticket price is £23 and this includes your train travel. Booking fees may apply.

The Penistone Line, which runs between Sheffield and Huddersfield via Barnsley and Penistone, has a history that dates back almost two centuries. In that time it has picked up more than its fair share of ghost stories, perhaps down to the fact that its early history was marked by a number of accidents, tragedies, and disasters, leading one Victorian report to call the line: The Graveyard of the Railways.

The Penistone Line, with its close ties to the Trans Pennine Way, cuts through som beautiful countryside and is an ideal starting point for those wanting a walk against the backdrop of some truly stunning scenery.

Ghost Train: Destination The Unknown, will feature author & storyteller Adrian Finney travelling along the line, telling the myths, legends, and ghost stories along the way, in a designated section of carriage.

There’s tales of a policeman who still patrols his beat from beyond the grave, ghost train, a Victorian-era hoax, and the story of one of English folklore’s most infamous figures.

We meet just outside Sheffield Station, by the Salmon of Steel statue, at 6:15pm, before travelling to Silkstone Common. It arrives back in Sheffield at approximately 9:30pm.

This event has been a national first, being the first time an event like this has ever taken place on the national rail network, and Strange Britain would like to thank everyone at Penistone Line Partnership and Northern for making this special possible.

Whether you are interested in the paranormal, whether you want a unique event to experience the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside, or whether your interest lies with the history of the country’s railways, the Ghost Train event is the one for you.

Please note this is an age 18+ event - we take an interval in a pub so this is due to licensing regulations.

The one major piece of feedback I have received from previous events is that people would like tickets to go on sale earlier, giving more time to plan to be able to attend, so with that in mind tickets will be going on sale five weeks beforehand.

In the event of industrial action on the railways, we will reschedule events, and those unable to make the alternate dates will get full refunds.

In the event of a cancelled train we will push the timings back an hour, arriving in Sheffield at 10:30pm, and we will give you all as much notice as possible should this happen. It’s why phone numbers are collected on check out.
