The Last Days of Disco (1998) at White Whale Bookstore

On July 24, Windup Cinema is dancing the night away at White Whale Bookstore with Whit Stillman’s classic comedy of manners, The Last Days of Disco.

From the vantage of 1998, Stillman portrays how America’s grooviest decade gave way to its most excessive, through the film’s waning night club and its group of yuppie patrons. Fashion icon and it girl of independent cinema Chloe Sevigny stars as Alice, with Kate Beckinsale as her coworker and roommate, Charlotte. After their day jobs at a Manhattan book publisher, the pair moonlight under the disco ball, navigating dating, dancing, and discussions on the true intentions of Lady and the Tramp.

Stillman’s witty, discursive dialogue delights between needle drops of some of the era’s most iconic songs, including tracks from Diana Ross, Chic, Sister Sledge and many more. Put on your dancing shoes and be ready to boogie on down.
