About this Event

This month, the Laru Beya Collective + are collaborating with for our beach/bay cleanup + free film screening at Arverne Cinema - 72-02 Gouverneur Ave, Queens, NY 11692.

Laru Beya Collective + Buena Onda Collective - an eco-centered art collective based in Rockaway Beach, NY - are collaborating on an art project called Staying Afloat: Sustainable Recycled Surfboard Sculptures. This is a workshop series that invites our community members to join us in pondering ocean life in the age of consumerism and exploring sustainable creative expression. Our purpose is to reframe, as a community, our relationship to the ocean and our efforts as ocean stewards. Over the next several months, we’ll be collecting findings from our monthly beach cleanups and using it to create, with our mentees, recycled surfboards and handplanes.

Our Earth Day 2023 clean-up will be focused on the bay area, at Dubos Point Wildlife Sanctuary - 60-3 De Costa Ave, Queens, NY 11692. Afterwards, we'll continue the fun with our friends at the Rockaway Film Fest . So, follow us to the Arverne Cinema for a FREE Screening of “Fantastic Fungi” and community performances!

Water, snacks, bags, and gloves will be provided, but we strongly encourage you to bring your own water bottles/cups to help reduce our carbon footprint!
