In 1998 Matthew Shepard was crucified on a fence in the small town of Laramie, Wyoming. In the aftermath of this appalling hate crime, Moises Kaufman and the New York-based Tectonic Theatre Project made six trips to Laramie over 18 months to interview the town's residents. Crafted into a play, this remarkable piece of verbatim theatre tells a very human story of prejudice, hatred, hope and mercy. The Laramie Project is a deeply moving theatrical experience that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.
