The La Jolla Dialogues: In Conversation with RADM Dirk Gartner
About this Event
Germany's navy has undergone considerable changes over the past several years. A fleet long built around coastal and North Atlantic defense now deploys frigates to the Indo-Pacific, is investing heavily in unmanned systems, and faces growing pressure to expand its industrial base as NATO's demands increase. RADM Dirk Gartner sits at the center of that shift: as Director of Capability Development for the German Navy and incoming Director of Procurement, he will help determine what the German Navy builds, procures, and deploys next.
The La Jolla Center for Pacific Strategy is pleased to welcome RADM Gartner to the latest installment of The La Jolla Dialogues, our executive conversation series that brings senior diplomatic, military, and industry leaders together to work through the strategic questions shaping the Pacific.
RADM Gartner will speak on topics such as lessons learned from naval operations in an active conflict environment, the future of naval special forces training, allied shipbuilding and procurement challenges, and German Navy investment in unmanned systems and defense innovation, followed by a moderated Q&A.
The evening runs from 4:30 to 7:00 PM and opens with RADM Gartner's remarks, followed by a Q&A, and closing with a hostedreception. Remarks and the discussion that follows will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
