Az 1986-ban, New Yorkból indult Klezmatics forradalmasította a kelet-európai gyökerű jiddis hangszeres tánczenét, a klezmert. Az idén negyvenéves formáció a nyolcvanas és a kilencvenes évek fordulóján, azaz a világzene műfaji indulása környékén a zsáner egyik első és legnagyobb sztárjának számított – és máig a klezmer-szcéna egyik legismertebb együttese. Eklektikus hangzásukba a zsidó zenei gyökerek megőrzése mellett beleférnek a jazzes, a latinos, a balkáni, sőt a punk és egyéb világzenei hatások is. Dalaikban az emberi jogokat és a diaszpórákat érintő kérdések mellett a kulturális ellenállás témái is megjelennek. Az egyetlen Grammy-díjas klezmeregyüttes We Were Made For These Times című új albumával érkezik Magyarországra, és érzelmekkel teli, eklektikus zenei utazásra hívja közönségét.

Formed in New York in 1986, The Klezmatics revolutionised klezmer, the Yiddish instrumental dance music style rooted in Eastern Europe. Now celebrating its fortieth anniversary, the ensemble was one of the first and biggest stars of the genre at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, around the time when world music was gaining ground as a separate musical category. To this day, the band remains one of the best-known groups on the klezmer scene. Their eclectic sound preserves Jewish musical roots, while also embracing jazz, Latin, Balkan, and even punk, along with other world music influences. In addition to themes concerning human rights and diasporas, their songs also address issues of cultural resistance. The only klezmer band to win a Grammy is now touring with their latest album, We Were Made For These Times – and their performance in Budapest promises nothing less than an emotionally charged, ecstatic musical journey.
