About this Event
Quiet on set! It’s time to make movie magic! Join us at Vizcaya Village this summer for a series of FREE workshops that cover the entire filmmaking process from start to end. Taking place every Saturday and Sunday from June 3rd through June 25, each workshop will focus on a singular aspect of stop-motion film production, from storyboarding to post-production and everything in between.
Vizcaya staff invite our community to come along as we unravel stories of our culinary artistry and food production through the power of filmmaking. Together, we will create our own masterpiece, and deliver it as warm as just pulled-out-the-oven homemade bread.
You are welcome to join as many or as few workshops as you'd like and no prior filmmaking experience is required!
THIS WORKSHOP | SET DESIGN
This workshop, on June 4, is all about set design. Artists Karla Caprali and Sophia Cabral will lead you through the brainstorming process to create sets for the short film "The Kitchin" using a variety of materials, such as repurposed cardboard, found objects, textiles, paint and other artmaking material.
ABOUT “THE KITCHIN”
The Kitchin is the first community-made stop-motion short animation made on the grounds of the majestic Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. A part of Vizcaya's Contemporary Art Program (CAP). The Kitchin is the 2023 installation of community-made-and-performed art and explores the power of communal storytelling in response to the 2023-24 CAP theme “The Kitchen is the Heart of the Home.”
Vizcaya’s kitchen was once a stage for sophisticated and indulgent French delicacies. It was the perfect set for French chef Theophile (Theo) Cazes, to create elaborate masterpieces for James Deering and his guests.
In the workshops, we'll create a narrative, make the set and the figures, film and edit. The final short film will be debuted, along with a series of behind-the-scenes videos at the culminating event on the evening of July 15, 2023.
