Step into the past and savor the flavors of heritage at Marble Springs State Historic Site with our enlightening series "Beyond Petticoats: Courage and Conviction in 18th-Century Women".
This May, we present "The Kitchen Garden: An 18th Century Homesteader’s Source for Food, Flavorings, and Home Remedies".
Join us as Deborah Bates, the creator of our new Kitchen Garden, guides us through the skills and ingredients that sustained families and soothed ailments. On Saturday, May 11th, starting at 12:00 noon, Ms. Deb will shed light on the essential skills of the 18th-century frontier woman—expertly intertwining botany with family life.
Don’t miss the opportunity to delve into the traditions that shaped the homesteading kitchen garden. It's more than a plot of land; it's a storied acre where sustenance, seasoning, and solace grow hand in hand. After the talk, Deb will lead a tour of our very own example of this historical mainstay here at Marble Springs, followed by a Q&A session where your curiosities are welcome.
This event is FREE to the public! Please use the ticketing link to RSVP for free, so we know how many to expect!
We would also like to thank Ms. Deb and the volunteers who have diligently dug, shoveled, and pulled many many weeds to create our very own Kitchen Garden.
The dinner bell tolls, the family wellness office is open—reserve your spot for a journey through time and taste at Marble Springs State Historic Site. The earth is rich, the knowledge timeless, and your place at our table awaits.
Marble Springs State Historic Site is funded under an agreement with the Tennessee Historical Commission
