Jan Clowes is a Vassalboro native who has been president of the Vassalboro Historical Society (VHS) for about 17 years. Within her first week of volunteering, Julie Lyon, the Society’s curator, showed Jan a brochure about book publishing from Arcadia Publishing, adding that she wished VHS could publish a book. Not being ready, the brochure went back in the drawer for years. Clowes retired and finally had a chance to begin the process of creating the book. She will talk about the method and the tasks that went well and those that were a struggle. Included in the presentation are images that were used in the book and some that didn’t make it. Clowes will also answer any questions and offer suggestions to help those considering their own publication.
Vassalboro books will be available for purchase for $20.
The Kennebec Historical Society presentation is free to the public (donations are gladly accepted) and will take place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, at Augusta City Center, located at 16 Cony Street in Augusta. If you have questions about the program, call Scott Wood, Executive Director, at 207-622-7718.
