I have to admit, watching yet another Portland lesbian bar disappear has been deeply disappointing. While Portland likely has one of the highest populations of queer women per capita in the country, non–sports-related, gay lady–centered nightlife remains far less supported than it should be.Still, we need spaces to gather - and we need a variety of them. That’s why I’m stepping in to produce a pop-up, inclusive lezzie bar dance party for vintage music lovers, hosted at my much-loved former Sugar Town home: The Spare Room. I'm naming it The Jett Set after one of the coolest, most dykenamic musicians of all time - Joan Jett.
I, DJ Action Slacks, will be DJing the night with my own alter egos: DJ Guilty Pleasure & DJ Obvious Choice, with all three versions of me spinning a variety of vintage vinyl from the 1970s & 1980s, plus a dash of the 1990s. Expect rare dance-floor delights, beloved "cool" classics, & songs you’ll want to sing along to. Funky Soul, Pop, Rock, Funk, Punk, Hip-Hop, Disco, and more!
Whether you’re looking for a joyful night out with friends or hoping to make some new "connections", this event is designed to fill your big gay cup with music, camaraderie, & love. Please come dance, and help spread the word.
