Jason Winikoff is a US-born, Vancouver-based drummer, percussionist, and ethnomusicologist. He has performed and studied drumming traditions extensively in Zambia, New Orleans, Ghana, and Haiti. After years of living, learning, and gigging in New Orleans, he brings the sounds of the Crescent City to Guilt & Co. with an explosive quintet. The Jason Winikoff Hot 5 specializes in Black American dance music from the 20's, 30's, and 40's with a focus on early New Orleans jazz. The group pulls influence from the likes of King Oliver, Louis Armstrong, the ODJB, Sidney Bechet, Jelly Roll Morton, and more. His infectious second-line grooves will keep you dancing to these trad barn-burners all night long.
