highlights the legacy of Barbara Jordan, unraveling how her strong moral principles and powerful public influence shaped U.S. politics, while exploring the complexities of her hidden personal identity. Barbara Charline Jordan was an American lawyer, educator, and politician and the first African American elected to the Texas Senate since Reconstruction, the first southern African-American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, and one of the first two African Americans elected to the U.S. House from the former Confederacy since 1901. A strong force for civil rights, she was also pivotal at the impeachment of President Richard Nixon.
