The classic ghost story for Halloween! Based on the 1898 novella The Turn of the Screw by Henry James and adapted by Truman Capote.
In Victorian England, the uncle of orphaned siblings Flora and Miles hires Miss Giddens as governess, granting her total independence and authority. Soon after her arrival, she becomes convinced that the spirits of the former governess, Miss Jessel, and the valet, Peter Quint, are possessing the children. Determined to save them, she resolves to help the children confront and banish the ghosts.
It's masterly in every way with a great performance from Deborah Kerr as the troubled Victorian governess, superb black-and-white widescreen photography by Freddie Francis and Georges Auric's last, truly distinguished score.
