Valmy is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Ontario who’s been following the ocean and making home on the East Coast. Exploring themes of wonder, loss, and healing, she uses her folk-influenced music to tell stories about loving and stumbling your way through the dark. Based in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Valmy creates and performs by weaving nature-inspired melodic swells and atmospheric harmonies with her contemplative writing. Her debut full-length album ‘The In Between’ was independently released in September 2023 and warmly received listeners, with a thoughtful review from Tony Ploughman of Fred’s Records: “The rhythms and melodies wrap around the mind and soul like a lovingly patched quilt…There is a cohesiveness to this full album offering meditative musings on balancing ones own mental state in harmony with nature, the songs providing a methodical process to achieve that balance. Graham is a songwriter at heart. Since picking up a box violin at the age of five he has always played by ear and listened for the melody. Drawn to the intimacy and immediacy of the stage, Graham reached his ten thousand hours by performing with countless groups through the tens. A singer and multi-instrumentalist, the highlight of this chapter was co-leading indie folk outfit Common Deer from 2014 to 2021, who toured extensively in Canada and the U.S. to support three studio releases. In the stillness of the pandemic, song writing flooded back in. A new honesty emerged both in texture and words. Graham now knows a greater responsibility and seeks his best both in sentiment and delivery. Owning his stage name from a solo project back in 2007, Just Graham wants to remind you that love isn’t dead, and beauty lies in imperfection.
