About this Event
The importance of Repair and restoring rather than re-build
Join us for an exciting event, "The importance of Repair and restoring rather than re-build," on Tuesday 5th November 2024 at 8:30am This in-person gathering will take place at WSP offices in the heart on Manchester.
Retaining heritage buildings isn’t just about preserving bricks and mortar; it’s about protecting our history, identity, and culture. Heritage buildings serve as tangible links to our past, offering a glimpse into different eras, architectural styles, and ways of life. They have stories to tell, and by preserving them, we honor those stories and the people who lived them.
We have a great panel of speakers who will elaborate on why retaining buildings can be valuable assets and environmentally, reusing and adapting existing buildings is often more sustainable than demolishing and building anew.
We are honored to introduce our distinguished key speakers:
- Catherine Dewar Regional Director at Historic England
- Samantha Gill Associate and Conservation Architect at Seven Architecture
- Jo Smith Estate and Asset Management at Stockport MBC
Additionally, renovation and restoration projects often require specialised skills and craftspeople. They will share how they are preserving the skills, and why & how they are choosing to repair rather than rebuild to save these architectural treasures but also pass on a piece of our shared heritage to future generations.
