Learn about the importance of local leadership in Iowa Conservation from John Whitaker, Executive Director of Conservation Districts of Iowa (CDI) Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the Des Moines Izaak Walton League. John will talk about the success of conservation through 75 years of work by local Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Iowa. Whitaker recently served as executive director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency in Iowa. In addition Whitaker served 10 years as county supervisor in Van Buren County and seven years in the Iowa House of Representatives. In the Legislature, he served two years as assistant minority leader and three years as assistant majority leader. He also served three years as vice president and nine years as president of Iowa Farmers Union. The mission of CDI is to inform, educate and lead Iowans through local soil and water conservation districts to promote conservation of natural resources. CDI is a nonprofit umbrella organization representing the state’s 100 local soil and water conservation districts and 500 locally elected commissioners. Admission to the program at 6:45 is FREE and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30, with an open bar. Dinner is available and service begins at 6.
