‘The Cracked Actor: Bowie on Screen’ Curator's film pick of the week: 'The Hunger' 1983 MTony Scott's gothic vampire tale set in 1980s New York is a stylish directorial debut, where mythos and thematic reflections on life and death take place. Miriam (Catherine Deneuve) promises her lovers the gift of eternal life, but her vampiric companion, John (David Bowie), discovers that he is getting old minute by minute, and so looks to Dr. Sarah Roberts (Susan Sarandon) – a researcher on the mechanisms of ageing – for answers.
