The Hunchback of Notre Dame: A Night of Silent Cinema with Live Organ
About this Event
Experience the eerie grandeur of the 1923 classic, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, as it was meant to be seen: on the big screen with live organ accompaniment.
This All Hallows we bring together two historic treasures at St Katharine Cree: the spellbinding tale of injustice and compassion set against the towering backdrop of Notre Dame Cathedral, and the soaring sounds of our magnificent 1686 Father Smith organ, once played by Purcell and Handel.
Join us in the splendour of this beautiful Jacobean church for an unforgettable cinematic experience. This landmark adaptation of Victor Hugo's classic nodel remains as startling and capitivating today as when audiences first witnessed Chaney's unforgettable portrayal of Quasimodo over a century ago.
Perfect for lovers of cinema, live music, and atmospheric storytelling in a truly special setting. A cultural event in the City not to be missed.
Our performer for the evening is noted cinema organist David Ivory, who has been accompanying silent cinema on the organ for more than fifty years.
There will be an Overture performed on the organ before the showing begins and an introduction to the evening for newcomers to silent cinema. Doors open at 7pm. Overture at 7:30pm with film showing directly after. Run time of 92 mins. Film rated PG. No under 12s.
A licensed bar will be available from 7pm.
We are sorry that there is no disabled toilet available.
All proceeds support St Katharine Cree's ministry and maintenance.
