We are living through a period of profound change. War, climate anxiety, political polarisation, social fragmentation and rapidly developing technologies are reshaping our world, and they do not remain outside the therapy room.
Therapy has always responded to a changing world. But today, it can feel as though the future of our field is increasingly being imagined by technology companies, venture capital investors and institutions. We believe therapists themselves need to take part in shaping what comes next.
- What new practices are already emerging?
- What must we protect? What may need to be left behind?
- What can we create together that none of us could create alone?
These questions are at the centre of the 2027 It’s Complicated Conference:
THE HONEY: Gathering New Practices for a Changing World
The conference is an invitation to gather what is already being created across our community: new therapeutic practices, experiments, collaborations, forms of mutual support and ways of responding to a changing world.
We want to bring therapists out of isolation and into conversation with one another — not simply to discuss the future of therapy, but to take part in making it.
This is not a wellness gathering, nor a conference where experts tell everyone else what the future will look like. It is a collective endeavour: a place to challenge one another, exchange practices, test ideas and encounter perspectives different from our own.
Over two days in Berlin, therapists, psychologists, counsellors and others working around mental health will come together for talks, workshops, conversations and less formal encounters. Some contributions will come from invited presenters; others will emerge from within the community itself.
We think of this as hiving: gathering knowledge and experience that often remain scattered across individual practices, cities and therapeutic traditions, and seeing what becomes possible when they are brought into contact.
The honey is what we make together.
Bring something to the hive
The call for contributions is now open. We invite therapists and practitioners to propose a talk, workshop, experiment or other contribution exploring new practices for a changing world. Submit your proposal by 31 December 2026.
Bring someone with you
Bring a friend or colleague and they receive €20 off their ticket.
We want the conference to grow through the relationships that already exist between therapists, colleagues bringing colleagues, friends bringing friends, and new connections forming across cities, practices and therapeutic traditions.
Sponsor a ticket
When purchasing your ticket, you can choose to add €50 to help subsidise a conference place for a student, therapist in training, or someone for whom the full ticket price would otherwise be a barrier.
Cancellation policy
Tickets are fully refundable until 8 weeks before the conference. After this date, tickets are non-refundable. If you can no longer attend, you may transfer your ticket to another person free of charge until 7 days before the event.
