HISTORY OF THE HITCHIN HEADMASTER
In 1810 the site of what would become a renowned educational institution in Hitchin saw its humble beginnings as an old maltings or malt house repurposed into a school. Tragedy struck in the 1850s when a fire ravaged the street leading to the school's reconstruction. Notably the area known as Dead Street underwent a transformation in the late Nineteenth Century eventually becoming Queen Street where the school museum now stands.
Amidst the backdrop of educational reforms in 1854 the school faced another transition with the appointment of a new headmaster. Despite initial doubts a frail and asthmatic candidate named William John Fitch was selected on probation. Little did anyone anticipate the profound impact he would have over the next 45 years.
Fitch's leadership ushered in a golden age for the school. He was revered not only for his eductional acumen but also for his unwavering dedication to his students' holistic development. Beyond the classroom Fitch immersed himself in community endeavors notably organising the Hitchin Adult School.
His disciplinary acumen was legendary with anecdotes highlighting his keen observation and fair yet firm approach. However Fitch's legacy extended far beyond discipline. He instilled in his students a love for literature faith and respect shaping generations of young minds.
Upon his retirement in June 1899 Fitch left behind a legacy that reverberated throughout Hitchin. His passing in 1902 was met with an outpouring of grief as evidenced by the overwhelming turnout at his funeral. The solemnity of the occasion marked by the resounding hymns and throngs of mourners underscored the profound impact Fitch had on the community he served with dedication and compassion.
Mr Fitch and his family were the only ones to ever live in this house.
PARANORMAL
The focal point of intrigue at this site is undeniably the house. Despite exploring numerous locations it's within this humble abode that the paranormal activity seems most concentrated. It's as though the essence of Mr. Fitch and his family has woven a rich tapestry of phenomena into the very fabric of the house.
During the last investigation by Chrystaliz Paranormal Mr. Fitch's presence was profoundly felt by every member of the team. His spirit seemed to linger in his favorite chair where he likely spent many contemplative moments. Moreover in the master bedroom the bed exhibited inexplicable movement rising and falling as if imbued with a life of its own. This eerie phenomenon was not only visible but palpable as investigators could feel the bed's rhythmic motion when placing their hands upon it.
The house stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Mr. Fitch and his family with each room holding its own spectral secrets waiting to be uncovered. Join Chrystaliz Paranormal as we continue the investigation.
