About this Event

Day: Sundays, 8 classes

Start/End: May 12 - June 30, 2024

Time: 1 - 4 PM

Cost: M: $390 NM: $420 (includes material and firing fee)

Instructor: Nikola Wojewoda

Handmade ceramic tiles are one of the oldest forms of decorative arts. Repeating patterns with geometric fruit and floral motifs have embellished architecture across the globe. In this 8-week class we will explore the potential of the repeating pattern. Using stencils, cuerda seca wax resist and glaze trailing, you will create a beautiful 8-piece ‘tile quilt’ to display on your wall.

About the Instructor: Nikola Wojewoda, a Hamilton based artist of Polish and Russian decent, is a graduate of Ontario College of Art. Her current practice includes mixed media drawing and painting, vintage wallpaper collage, figurative clay sculpture incorporating found objects, and illustrated ceramics. She often combines two and three dimensions to tell a story. Her detailed and process oriented work investigates the intersection of icon, symbol and pattern and the bridge between craft and fine art.

ART SUPPLIES: Adult students must supply their own materials based on course outline or purchased from the instructor if indicated.

ATTIRE: Please dress in clothing that reflects the nature of the activity. Your clothing may get messy from the materials and mediums utilized in your class. Also, closed-toe shoes are mandatory.
