The Hair Journey Watch Party!Earlier this year 787 community members gathered to see The Hair Journey at its Greensboro and Winston-Salem premieres. The show was met with so much love and many asked "when can we see it again?"
We are so pleased to share The Hair Journey Watch Party. Come see the live recording from our premiere on April 23 at the UNCG Auditorium.
The Hair Journey tells the story of Zuri who learns to love her hair just as it is after she goes on an adventure the hair salon to get her hair straightened. Unfortunately, rain clouds gather and she rushes home, but not before her beautiful silky hair turned back into a messy, wet afro. Devastated she falls asleep and wakes up in a mysterious land, The Weave Kingdom, where she meets the Weave Queen. Unable to find her place in the kingdom, she follows a drumbeat into a forest, where she meets Nywele, Queen of the Land of Locs and Fros. While there she learns to care for her hair and longs to go home to her mom. She falls asleep and wakes up to her mom doing her hair and they embrace.
The performance includes 22 dancers and a live orchestra of 15 musicians. The music is composed by Sharneisha Joyner and conducted by Dr. Ronnal Ford. The production is Directed by Morgan "Flowerchild" Jones and Created, Written, and Produced by Princess H. Johnson
The watch party will include a chance to mix and mingle over hors d'oeuvre and beverages, the viewing of the film, and a short Q&A following the film.
Come dressed to impressed with the fashion statement of your choosing and y'all know we love a good hair doo. Have fun representing Team Weave or Team Natural or a little of both. We can't wait to see you!
